Over recent years Solent Stevedores has been asked to receive, handle, store and load out a vast array of varied cargoes and shipments of dry bulk commodities at The Port of Southampton.
Alongside ABP, Solent Stevedores has provided major investment in upgrading the berth and quayside facilities to ensure we remain the first choice for one off and regular shipments of dry bulk to and from the UK.
As one of the country’s busiest and most successful deep-water ports, Southampton is a natural choice for all major cruise operators with facilities to handle the worlds largest cruise ships. Its natural deep-water harbour and unique double tide allow unrestricted access for any vessel.
Solent Stevedores provide baggage, stores handling and support services to Cruise Ships across 4 terminals.

With a wide range of equipment and a fully trained, experienced and flexible work force, Solent Stevedores is well placed to meet the demands of all types of project or general cargo requirements.
Some examples of recent activity are:

Solent Stevedores successfully loaded two large Catarmarans previously used to transport passengers between Portsmouth and Ryde on the Isle of Wight which were subsequently sold to a Russian company operating passenger services on the Black Sea.
The Catarmarans which had been laid up in Southampton Water for several months, were sailed over from Marchwood, and loaded direct from water to the vessel “OXYL Fantasy“ which was berthed in the King George V Dock.

Working in close co-operation with local Port Agent, Denholm Barwil, Solent Stevedores loaded 18x40 tonne Terex excavators onto the deck of ‘Atlantic Regine’
The machinery, built in Scotland, was safely loaded and secured ready for despatch to the port of Bata in Equatorial Guinea

Most of Solent Stevedores cargo handling work is undertaken within the confines of the 20 acre bulk terminal. However the company’s experienced staff were called upon to load three pre used CAT manufactured earth moving machines and 4 pieces of rock crushing machinery, with a total weight of 221 tonnes, at berth 41 in the Eastern Docks using the heavy lift cranes aboard the UAL Angola

Beer drinkers in Lithuania were no doubt raising their glasses to toast Solent Stevedores, as the company loaded a cargo of monster brewing vats to the MV Moana in the King George Dock. The vats, which came from a redundant brewery in Reading, were so large that specialist transport had to deliver them in under the plumb of the Port’s 100 tonne Harbour Mobile Crane from where they were lifted and stowed safely on board.
In February 2009, 1,500 tonnes of timber was discharged, repacked and reloaded to the deck of the Russian cargo vessel ‘Sinegorsk’ after the cargo had been dislodged in a force 9 gale in the English Channel.
Following the breakdown of a vessel carrying yachts, Solent Stevedores were appointed to transfer 9,000 tonnes of specialised steel coil from the hold of the distressed vessel to the hold of a replacement berthed alongside.
Using high capacity Port Harbour mobile cranes, Solent Stevedores regularly transfer yachts and other pleasure craft from vessel deck to quay/water or vice-versa.
Similar cargoes have included hovercraft and passenger craft for the Red Funnel Ferry Company.
In June 2009, Solent Stevedores was contracted to load a cargo of military equipment as part of a UK armament contract.
In July 2009, a consignment of 77 large water pipes, destined for a project in north Hampshire was discharged by Solent Stevedores within the tight schedules required by the customer.
