Over recent years Solent Stevedores has been asked to receive, handle, store and load out a vast array of varied cargoes and shipments of dry bulk commodities at The Port of Southampton.
Alongside ABP, Solent Stevedores has provided major investment in upgrading the berth and quayside facilities to ensure we remain the first choice for one off and regular shipments of dry bulk to and from the UK.
With the recent expansion of the Bulk Terminal site and introduction of new equipment, Solent Stevedores has been able to offer a more comprehensive level of service to non bulk customers.
With a wide range of equipment and a fully trained, experienced and flexible work force, Solent Stevedores is well placed to meet the demands of all types of project or general cargo requirements.
Solent Stevedores was chosen to provide stevedoring services to Huelin Renouf when the company relocated their Channel Island container operation from Portsmouth to Southamptonin January 2009.
Working out of a new dedicated terminal at Berth 45 - Eastern Docks, the operation has proved to be a great success, leading to the recent introduction of a second vessel and an expanded five day per week service.
Key Management and staff with extensive relevant experience have been recruited to ensure a high level of service as would be expected in the UK’s number one Cruise Port.
A full range of equipment is available to meet any client requirements, giving the company the capability to handle multiple cruise ships at any one time.

Excerpt: Talking of the Cruise Vessel Services provided to Carnival UK, Ian Jacobs - General Manager comments
“In 2011 Solent Stevedores handled over 240 cruise ships in Southampton. We are turning around up to 8000 guests and typically 20,000 pieces of baggage per vessel and as you can imagine, this takes some organisation given the time frames we are working to.
“Of course when cruise vessels call at Southampton there is also normally a large stores requirement, which can range from toothpaste to the props required for the onboard theatres. On a typical cruise call this can be upwards of 300 tonnes of stores, so again we need to ensure we have the right skills and equipment in place to handle the requirements, after all we have a limited time to perform the needs of our clients.”

P&O Cruises plans special 175th Anniversary event
On Tuesday 3rd July 2012, P&O Cruises has scheduled that all their seven vessel cruise fleet will simultaneously turn round in Southampton, as part of the company’s 175th anniversary.
This will be a particularly challenging day for the port and city of Southampton, especially as over 30,000 cruise passengers and several thousand visitors, including high profile VIP’s, are expected to attend.
Whilst Solent Stevedores remains committed to service the requirements of their customers at all times, it is considered prudent to pre-advise you of the likely challenges this enhanced cruise activity will have on general port business and traffic management on this date.
